Directors Matthew and Daniel Kooman will present their new documentary Dream for the first time this Friday in Red Deer.  “We’re proud to unveil the film to a hometown crowd,” says Matthew Kooman. “Audiences in Central Alberta have been so supportive of us in our filmmaking journey and we’re excited Central Albertans will be the first to see this film.”

DREAM PREMIERE

  • Date: June 14, 2019
  • Time: 6:15 pm and 8:00 pm
  • Location: Welikoklad Event Centre, 4922 49 Street

A short talk back panel with the directors will follow each screening. An afterparty for VIP Pass holders will take place at Red Hart Brewing, where audience members can talk more intimately with the filmmakers and some of the film’s subjects.

Dream asks the question: if anything were possible, what dream would you build your life on? The film features individuals who have had incredible success and who have encountered enormous obstacles, including Grammy-nominated recording artists Bryan and Katie Torwalt; Robb Nash, the popular musician who was recently named to the Order of Canada and has helped save more than 800 teens from suicide; and Canadian Rock ’n Roll Hall of Fame member Phil Comparelli, the former lead guitarist of rock band 54/40.

“A powerful dream can change the world,” notes co-director Daniel Kooman who returned from a trip to Tanzania last week where he met up with Milka, a young woman whose dream of becoming a doctor is becoming a reality because of the film project.

The handcrafted Dream Elephants featured in the film that Milka is making in Tanzania with her friend Elijah, the 10 year old Central Albertan boy who bought her sewing machines, will be on display after the screening and available for sale.

“Even though we haven’t screened the film publicly yet,” Daniel highlights, “the film is already making an impact.  Poverty won’t stop Milka from achieving her dream of education, and Central Alberta has a direct connection to her dream coming true.”

Tickets are available online and at the door.
