She Has A Name, the award-winning Canadian from film Unveil Studios that sheds light on children trafficked into the sex trade will be screened at five different venues in Winnipeg in March:
March 1 — Fort Richmond Baptist Church
March 2 — Winnipeg Chinese Alliance Church
March 5 — Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church
March 7 — Zion Apostolic Church
March 11— Eastview Community Church
The film is an adaptation of the critically acclaimed stage play that toured Canada in 2012, including to the Winnipeg Fringe and also appeared off Broadway in New York City in the Fall of 2018.
Based on real events, She Has A Name exposes the $150 billion global human trafficking industry, in which, according to the UN, two million people are currently exploited globally, with less than 1% ever rescued.
Winner of 5 Top Indie Film Awards, including Best Feature Film, She Has A Name has also appeared in film festivals around the world. It is an official selection of the 2018 Amnesty International Festival “Cinema for Human Rights” this March in France.
The Unveil Studios’ film stars an international cast of actors including Will Yun Lee (The Wolverine, Hawaii Five-0), Eugenia Yuan (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Sword of Destiny; Memoirs of A Geisha) and Gil Bellows (The Shawshank Redemption, Ally McBeal).
The story of She Has a Name follows Jason, a lawyer, who poses as a john to build a legal case against a ruthless pimp trafficking girls into Thailand. He meets Number 18, a girl forced to work as a prostitute in a busy Bangkok bar, and discovers her testimony is key to proving his case.
