where are they now?

You might be asking, what’s up with the E for E crew?

It’s been sometime since we were on the road. Our lives have been filled with many things.

Em is pulling off flawless grades in the fine arts programme at RDC while and working at various jobs while Steve (re)started teaching out in Sylvan, doing that thing he does, while writing a new novel on the side.

Dan has been navigating the waters of running a successful business, dating an amazing girl, filming the occassional documentary, while editing a feature film.

Matt is adjusting to married life and taking a short hiatus overseas after completing the rough cut and running the aforementioned biz with dan.

Andrew has been promoting a prayer booklet, developing his first play, and just started an exciting web developer programme at RDC.

Joel, like Andrew, is leveraged by Matt and Dan to make their business successful, and he is working the meter-reader while writing incredible tunes and preparing for exciting things that are to come.

But finishing the film has been on the forefront on our collective mind. We’ve continued to meet each week to pray the film into being and to fine tune it as much as we can. The scoring is near complete, and soon this baby will be in the can and shipped around the world to different film festivals.

We look forward to a future theatrical release! The dream was big at its inception, and it continues to grow.

Bowden

Saturday, welcomed to it one of our last days of shooting. We began at 9:30 am near Bowden, in the ditch of the Queen Elizabeth II highway, underneath a series of billboards just right of the highway when heading south (as well as the sun, which managed to burn a few of us with relative ease).

The real excitement of the day came when Stan Schalk arrived to film his scene, followed by the extras arriving for their scene. The filming went off without a hitch and when the record button was pushed for the last time we were all ready to get away from the busy highway (which happened to be the busiest it gets all year) to drink some water and turn on the air conditioning.
We finished off the day watching dailies and recovering from sunstroke. But what a day!

Literally, two scenes remain, and for one of those scenes we will be in contact with you, hopefully far enough in advance for you all to be able to make our final day of shooting. We need many extras!

weekend warriors

It’s good to be working as a fully functional crew again. We were all together again, this time with some added star power and new, rising talent on the scene in the Kooman’s oldest nephew Avery. Kelsey stopped by and leant a hand, too.

We can count the number of scenes left to shoot on a hand (or two). This is good news.
We split our saturday between the Weibe’s and the Krogman’s shooting scripted ‘Canada stuff.’ Steve had his fill of ice cream (the movie made him do it) and we all had our fill of elk (thanks Rick and Sharon for the burgers).

back at it again

The last few weeks have been an adjustment period as we returned to our personal lives in Red Deer. We’ve also had a few opportunities to share about our experiences overseas at Alive and Gateway Christian School and have been asked to share elsewhere too.

We started filming again this week. It felt good. A little ditty that involved some low profile street shots. We still have a few more scenes to tackle before we can officially slide into post-production. But it’s nice to feel like we have our ‘film feet’ under us again.

home sweet home

It’s true. We made it home, safely and soundly after a long series of flights: Bangkok, Taipei, Vancouver, Calgary. All the plane transfers went smoothly, like clockwork, really. We were surprised by the welcome party and sinage greeting us at the airport. It was good to see family and friends after our three months overseas.
Canadian air never smelled so fresh. And Tim Hortons. Em had been conspiring what to order for almost a month.

With the biggest hurdle crossed, we look forward to the next leg of the film’s journey.

Keep up to date with us here on the website. We will continue to track our progress with the film shoot.

It’s official. Our overseas location shoot is complete! Matt gave the nod on 13 April that we had the footage we needed in Thailand: time to put the cameras and other equipment down.

We will enjoy our last few days in Asia, and look forward to seeing friends and family at home before we buckle down to finish our final scenes in Alberta and tackle post-production too.

To our friends in Alberta, keep your eye out for the E for E crew, they are coming soon to city near you.
